Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
This book rocked my world. My wife surprised me with this book for Christmas and I read it in under 48 hours (huge for me).
I cannot say much about the plot because the twists and turns are so quick and sudden that I don't want to spoil anything. Just know that the idea is: a man wakes up in space and can't remember why he's there.
This is a true science fiction novel. Weir uses his clear intellect to help his character solve problems through truly nerdy means. For an engineer, this book will never cease to entertain. Solutions to problems throughout the book are solved with hard engineering and science and it's an absolute thrill to watch. I genuinely felt smarter coming out of this book.
Accompanying engineering concepts with heartfelt and real emotion is difficult; but Weir does it. I cried at this book. There's dried tears on a few of the pages of my hard copy. It's very possible that this is ridiculous, but it really touched me.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone. It is a low commitment book in that it tells an entire story in one sitting. You won't have to read seven books before being satisfied. This book is self-contained and will uplift and inspire you!
