Mistborn
I read this book to help me step away from Way of Kings for a minute. I wanted to let the Way of Kings story sink in before committing to another thousand pages in its sequel. I thought to myself, "There's no way Mistborn will be as good" and then I read almost 200 pages of the book the day I first opened it.
Mistborn, like Way of Kings, has an entirely new world of fascinating mechanics. Different from Way of Kings, Sanderson explains the world more clearly right up front. I felt a great grasp of the magic system in Mistborn much faster than I did in Way of Kings.
With that said, I am not sure if I can say I like Mistborn more than Way of Kings. They are very different novels that provide very different plots and payoffs. I loved this book so much in a very different way than I loved way of Kings.
To me, reading this right after WoK solidified Sanderson as maybe the greatest fantasy author of my time. Granted, I haven't read as much fantasy as most; I don't think anything could match this. If it does, I will gladly admit it because it must be an amazing story.
